Serpentine gained its name due to its snakeskin-like appearance. It is said to help activate the kundalini, or 'serpent fire' energies. Serpentine is a stone of change, or new beginnings - just as a snake sheds its skin and begins again.
According to legend, Romans used this stone as protection against sorcery and the dark arts. Ancients used Serpentine drinking vessels because they were said to shatter as they came into contact with poison.
